Privacy Policy

We collect as little as we can, use it only to sell you books and let you read them, and never sell it.

01Who we are

Mother Comet (“we”, “us”) is an independent publishing project based in Thailand. We are responsible for the personal data described here. You can reach us at info@mothercomet.com.

This policy is written to meet Thailand’s Personal Data Protection Act (PDPA) and, for readers in the European Union and United Kingdom, the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

02What we collect

  • Your account — your email address and a password. Passwords are stored only as a secure hash by our account provider; we can never see them.
  • Your orders — what you bought, the amount, currency, date and payment status, and Stripe’s reference numbers. Your card or bank details go directly to Stripe and never reach us.
  • Your reading — the page you last read in each book, so you can carry on where you left off on any device.
  • Messages and the mailing list — the name, email address and message you send us through our forms.
  • Anonymous visit statistics — which pages are viewed, the website that sent the visitor, the type of device and the visitor’s country (a two-letter code only; no IP address is stored). We do not use cookies for this and we do not store IP addresses or anything that identifies you.
  • Security logs — our hosting providers briefly keep technical logs (such as IP address and browser) to keep the service secure and working.

03Why we use it

  • To sell you books and let you read them (performing our contract with you): your account, orders and reading position.
  • To answer you: messages you send us.
  • To send news about our books, only if you joined the list (your consent). You can leave at any time.
  • To keep things secure and improve the site (our legitimate interests): security logs and anonymous statistics.
  • To meet legal duties, such as keeping sales records for accounting and tax.

We never sell your data, never use it for advertising, and never make automated decisions about you.

04Who helps us

We use a few trusted service providers who process data for us under their own security and privacy commitments:

  • Supabase — accounts, our database and private book storage (servers in Singapore).
  • Stripe — payments and fraud prevention.
  • Netlify — website hosting and our contact and mailing-list forms (servers in the United States).

These providers may process data outside your country. They use recognised safeguards for international transfers, such as standard contractual clauses. We share data with authorities only when the law requires it.

05Cookies and storage

We do not use advertising or tracking cookies. Our pages store a small amount of information in your browser only to keep you signed in and to remember your reading page. Stripe’s checkout page uses its own cookies to process payments safely and prevent fraud.

06How long we keep it

  • Account and reading position — until you ask us to delete your account.
  • Orders — as long as accounting and tax law requires (usually up to 10 years).
  • Messages — up to 2 years after our last reply.
  • Mailing list — until you unsubscribe.
  • Anonymous statistics — they contain no personal data.

07Your rights

You can ask us to:

  • see a copy of the personal data we hold about you;
  • correct it, or delete it (deleting your account also ends access to the books in it);
  • stop or limit certain uses, or object to them;
  • give you your data in a portable format;
  • withdraw your consent at any time, for example by leaving the mailing list.

Write to info@mothercomet.com from the email address on your account. We will reply within 30 days. You may also complain to a data protection authority — in Thailand the Personal Data Protection Committee (PDPC), or the authority where you live in the EU or UK.

08Security and children

All connections are encrypted. Book files are kept privately and are never sent to your browser; access to every page is checked on our servers.

Our shop is not intended for children under 16. If you are under 16, please ask a parent or guardian to buy for you.

09Changes to this policy

If we change this policy we will update the date at the top of this page, and tell you by email if the change is important.

Questions? Write to us at info@mothercomet.com. We reply in English or Thai.
